Head banger safety gear?  Woodpeckers, equipped with skull mesh and brain shock-absorbers
excerpts from“Why don’t woodpecker get brain damage?”   by Matt Soniak
Woodpeckers evolved intense headgear to prevent brain damage, cracked skulls and retinal detachment. Chinese scientists took a look at the birds’ heads, brains and behavior, last year.… Bone surrounding the brain is thick and spongy, loaded with…microscopic beam-like…tissue …[creating] a …“mesh” for support and protection with more around the forehead and back of the skull… as a shock absorber.
…In humans, a hyoid [bone] is an attachment site for throat and tongue muscles. Woodpeckers’ hyoids do the same thing, but they’re larger…and wrap all the way around the skull and, sometimes, around eye socket or into nasal cavities.…the researchers think [this] acts like a safety harness for skull and brain, absorbing shock and stress as they shake, rattle and roll with each peck.

Don’t know what to do with that fast test-taker during middle and high school exams? If you have access to a printer/copier, visit Patterns for Colouring and print out some great abstract coloring pages for them.
I keep a stack of them in my room and the kids always like coloring them. :)

Amazing … this Tumblr now has more than 10,000 followers!
I am honored and humbled that so many total strangers find my idiosyncratic postings to be of interest. I am one of those people who believes that all of humanity is quite closely connected, and this is an inspiring manifestation of that idea.
A special shout to Die Neue Demian for being my first five-digit follower!
I also feel particularly privileged to be a contributor to the truly vibrant #Education community on Tumblr. I greatly admire the passion and commitment Tumblr educators show to your students and your fellow teachers.

These are recycled glass jar night lights that I make by hand and sell in my Etsy shop. You want one, don’t you? You should probably treat yourself.
